How to Advertise on ChatGPT, Step by Step: A Guide for Argentina (2026)

Updated October 22, 2026. ChatGPT Ads is in beta and changes often: before you launch, confirm every detail in your dashboard and in the OpenAI help center.

News: on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, OpenAI turned on ChatGPT Ads in Argentina. Argentine companies have been able to advertise for just one day. In Mexico and Brazil it has been available since August 11, 2026.

Short answer

To advertise on ChatGPT, you need to create an advertiser account in your company's name in ChatGPT Ads Manager (ads.openai.com), set up your billing profile, pass verification, build a campaign with its ad group and ad, install measurement and wait for review. Ads appear below ChatGPT's answer, labeled as sponsored, and are shown only to users on the Free and Go plans.

Since October 21, 2026, this is already possible for Argentine companies.

Can you advertise on ChatGPT from Argentina?

Yes. Argentina is among the 89 countries with self-serve access to Ads Manager. The key condition is that the company that advertises and is billed must be based in a country on that list. In Latin America there are 16: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic and Uruguay.

The October 21 expansion added 26 countries at once, and the platform has accumulated more than 100,000 advertisers since launch, a little over eight months ago. In Argentina the rollout is gradual: if your account does not show every option yet, check again in a few days before assuming you did something wrong.

Who sees the ads and how do they appear?

  • They are shown below the answer, with the advertiser name, icon, headline, description, image and landing page, and with the sponsored content label.
  • They appear only on the Free and Go plans. Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Education have no ads.
  • They are not shown to accounts identified as belonging to users under 18.
  • They do not change what ChatGPT answers: the ad system is separate from the model.
  • Advertisers do not receive conversations, history or personal data. They only see aggregated metrics.
  • Ads do not run in sensitive conversations (mental health, politics and other delicate topics) or in temporary chats.

How are the ads that get shown chosen?

There are no keywords as in Google. The system chooses by expected relevance, combining the context and intent of the conversation, the landing page, the ad copy and the context hints you provide. The auction is second-price and weighted by relevance: winning does not depend only on bidding more money, and often a click costs less than your maximum bid.

What already happened in Mexico and Brazil, and what to expect here

Mexico and Brazil have an eleven-week head start on Argentina and are a useful reference for how the channel behaves in the region.

  • Same entry floor: the minimum daily budget per campaign is $ 150 Mexican pesos in Mexico, R$ 40 in Brazil, US$ 25 in the United States and £ 15 in the United Kingdom. The official minimums table covers 23 currencies, but it does not include the Argentine peso: check which currencies your account sign-up offers.
  • Access: in Mexico it is self-serve for companies established in the country, just as it now is in Argentina.
  • No official cost benchmarks: OpenAI has not published reference costs per click, per thousand impressions or return, and the numbers going around come from a handful of agency and trade-media accounts. That is why, for Argentina, the sensible move is to start with a small budget and not make decisions with the first week of data.
  • A fast-growing channel: more than 100,000 advertisers in eight months means competition in the auction will rise as companies from each country join.

The cost figures we have gathered, with their dates and origins, are in our guide on how much it costs to advertise on ChatGPT.

What to have ready before you start

  1. An allowed category. The list is below.
  2. Company details: legal name, address, email for invoices and website.
  3. A credit card in the company's name and from the same country as the sign-up. A card from another country may be rejected.
  4. A specific landing page for what you will promote, not the generic homepage.
  5. Measurement ready: Google Analytics 4 and, if you sell online, your purchase or lead events.
  6. An OpenAI account (the same one you use for ChatGPT) to log in to Ads Manager.

Step by step

Step 1: confirm your category can advertise

OpenAI's policies (updated September 10, 2026) currently limit ads to consumer categories: household and consumer goods, local services, travel and experiences, digital products and education.

Some categories are prohibited or heavily restricted:

  • Financial services, regulated health and legal services outside the United States are generally prohibited.
  • Alcohol, tobacco and vaping, gambling, adult content and dating, recreational drugs, politics and weapons cannot be advertised.
  • Ads for a specific job opening or a specific property for sale or rent are not accepted. You can advertise a jobs or real estate platform, as long as neither the ad nor the page mentions a specific listing.

OpenAI also reviews the landing page, not just the ad. If the ad is valid but the page leads to something prohibited, it is rejected.

Step 2: create the account in Ads Manager

Go to ads.openai.com with your OpenAI account. One person creates the advertiser account and then invites the rest of the team from Settings, Users. There are three roles: Admin (full access), Member (creates and manages campaigns) and Viewer (read only).

Three decisions worth taking your time on:

  • Country, currency and time zone cannot be changed after the account is created. Review them before submitting.
  • Legal name and brand name are two different fields. The legal name is the registered business name, used for billing and business verification. The brand name is the public name shown with your ads in ChatGPT.
  • Changing the brand name triggers a new review and pauses delivery until it is approved. Changing the legal name restarts business verification.

Each advertiser needs its own account. If you work with an agency, the clean setup is for the account to be in your company's name and for the agency to join as a user.

Step 3: set up billing

Without complete billing, no campaign delivers. You are asked for the business name, address and email to receive invoices, plus the card.

How charging works:

  • It is postpaid: you are charged after the ads were shown.
  • The card is charged when accumulated spend reaches your account's payment threshold, and whatever remains is charged at month end. Thresholds start low and can rise automatically based on your payment history. They cannot be requested manually.
  • When the card is verified, a temporary US$ 100 hold may appear. It is not a charge, it releases on its own and may show on your statement for up to 7 days.
  • If a payment fails, campaigns may show "Not serving" until it is resolved.
  • After you pause a campaign, ads can keep delivering for up to 24 hours, and that spend is billed anyway.

Step 4: create the campaign

The structure is Campaign, ad group and ad. In the campaign you define:

  • Objective. There are three: Views (reach, you pay per thousand impressions), Clicks (you pay per valid click) and Conversions (the system optimizes toward an event you choose, such as a purchase or a lead; you do not pay per conversion, but per click or per thousand impressions depending on the mode). The objective cannot be edited later: to change it you have to create a new campaign.
  • Budget, daily or total. The daily budget is a seven-day average: one day can spend up to double, and over the week (Sunday to Saturday) spend does not exceed seven times the daily amount. The total budget is the stricter control. OpenAI recommends that new advertisers start with a daily budget.
  • Dates for the start and, if you want, the end.
  • Countries and platforms (iOS app and web, Android app and web, and desktop). On new accounts you may at first only be able to advertise in your home country; to add others you need approved identity verification and a certain amount of spend on local campaigns.
  • Custom audiences (optional): to include them you need a minimum of 25,000 matched users.

You can also upload campaigns in bulk with a template, except for product catalog campaigns.

Step 5: set up the ad group

Here you define the maximum bid, the destination URL and the context hints.

Context hints are the functional equivalent of keywords, but broader: a free field where you describe in which conversations, topics or intents your product may be relevant. They are not exact match and do not guarantee the ad will run in a specific conversation.

For Clicks campaigns, OpenAI recommends starting with a maximum bid of US$ 3 to US$ 5 per click. It is a ceiling, not the actual cost. Ads Manager shows a "bid strength" guide that warns you whether your bid is competitive or may limit delivery.

Organize groups by topic or intent, not by individual product: one group for people comparing options, another for people looking for a specific solution, another for people asking about prices. That lets you read which kind of conversation performs best.

Step 6: create the ad

There are two formats: static ad (headline, description, image and landing page) and product ad, built from a catalog or feed. The limits commonly cited today for the static ad are a headline of up to 50 characters, a description of up to 100 and a square image of at least 256 x 256 pixels. OpenAI has been adding formats, so confirm the current limits in the editor. Product ads, for now, can only be targeted at the country level.

How to write it:

  • Think of the ad as a useful answer to the question someone asked ChatGPT, not as a slogan.
  • Promise only what your page delivers. Exaggerated claims and guaranteed results are prohibited.
  • Do not imitate ChatGPT's design or voice. Ads must be clearly distinguishable from the interface.

Step 7: install measurement

OpenAI offers a pixel and a Conversions API. Install them before launch and define which event you will count as a conversion (purchase, lead, sign-up).

Also add UTM parameters to your ad URLs to see that traffic in Google Analytics 4. It is the way to cross-check what OpenAI reports against what actually happens on your site. Visits from the ad review system do not count as billable clicks.

Step 8: submit for review and launch

Creatives and the landing page go through a policy review before running. If something shows "Not serving," hover over the status to see the reason: it is often fixed by editing and resubmitting, and other times the block comes from an account under review, business verification or billing.

Once live, Ads Manager reports impressions, clicks, spend, CTR, average cost per click, average CPM and conversions, in table, chart or CSV format. Two details so you do not panic: impressions, clicks and CTR update about every 15 minutes, but spend can take 7 or 8 hours to show up, so seeing zero spend alongside impressions does not mean nothing was charged.

Reporting is limited: you cannot see the conversations or the topics that triggered your ad. You have to trust the system quite a lot and optimize with the ads, the context hints and the structure.

Common mistakes when starting out

  • Sending traffic to the homepage. A page specific to each topic converts better and passes review more easily.
  • Not measuring before spending. Without a pixel or UTMs, you will not know whether it worked.
  • Copying your Google or Instagram ad. Here the person arrives from a conversation, not from a short search or a scroll.
  • Entering the wrong country, currency or legal name. They are hard to change afterward.
  • Offering something from a restricted category and finding out only at review.
  • Drawing conclusions in two days. Give the test a reasonable period and a budget large enough to gather data.

Should you do it with an agency?

If you already have a team that manages Google Ads or Meta Ads, you can launch on your own: the campaign logic will feel familiar. If you want to move faster, an agency can help with context strategy, landing pages, measurement and analysis. The account always stays in your company's name and the agency joins as a user.

Frequently asked questions

  • Can I already advertise on ChatGPT from Argentina? Yes. OpenAI turned on Argentina on October 21, 2026. The rollout is gradual, so check which options you see in your account.
  • Do I need an agency to advertise on ChatGPT? No. You can use Ads Manager on a self-serve basis. If you hire an agency, your company creates the account and then adds the agency as a user.
  • Will my ad appear inside ChatGPT's answer? No. It appears below, separate and labeled as sponsored. Paying does not change what ChatGPT answers.
  • Can I pick keywords like in Google Ads? Not as such. You describe the conversations where your product is relevant with context hints, which guide the system but are not exact rules.
  • Can an Argentine bank, clinic or law firm advertise? Under current policies, financial services, regulated health and legal services outside the United States are generally prohibited. Read the policy before investing time in building the campaign.
  • Am I charged per conversion? No. Even in Conversions campaigns you pay per valid click or per thousand impressions, not per sale.
  • How much does it cost to advertise? It depends on an auction. We cover the numbers in detail in our guide on how much it costs to advertise on ChatGPT.
