You search for "SEO agency Argentina" and find directories, rankings put together by the agencies themselves and landing pages promising the first page of Google. Knowing how to choose an SEO agency is, above all, knowing what to ask before you sign. In this guide you will find the questions Google itself recommends, the most common pricing models, what a serious service should include and the signs that should make you suspicious.

How to choose an SEO agency in Argentina: what to ask, what it costs and red flags

The short answer
A good SEO agency explains what it will do, in what order and how you will measure it, shows you previous work you can verify and never guarantees you a position on Google. If someone promises you the top spot, they either do not understand how Google works or they are selling you something that does not depend on them.
The questions Google recommends asking an SEO
Google has a page dedicated to this topic: Do you need an SEO?, part of its official documentation for site owners. There it suggests asking these questions before hiring:
- Can you show me examples of your previous work and success stories?
- Do you follow the Google Search Essentials guidelines?
- What results do you expect to achieve, and in what timeframe? How will you measure success?
- What experience do you have in my industry and in my country?
- How long have you been in business?
- Will you share all the changes you make to the site?
Add two more that matter a lot in Argentina: how billing works (pesos or dollars, how often the price is adjusted) and who owns the accounts (Search Console, Analytics, domain). The accounts must always be in your name.
Red flags before you sign
The same Google documentation lists behaviors that should make you think twice. The most common ones we see in the market:
- Guaranteed rankings. Google explicitly states that no one can guarantee a #1 ranking in its results.
- A "special relationship" with Google or priority submissions. They do not exist.
- Persistent cold outreach promising results without having looked at your site.
- Lack of transparency. If they do not explain what they will do or how, it is a bad sign.
- Buying links. Google's spam policies consider buying or selling links to manipulate rankings to be spam. If the strategy is built on "backlink packages", you carry the risk, not the agency.
How much SEO costs: pricing models
There is no serious public survey of SEO prices in Argentina. What does exist are global surveys, useful for understanding how SEO is billed even though the amounts do not translate directly to the local market.
What international surveys say
The Ahrefs survey of 439 SEO providers (updated in August 2024) found that 78.2% charge a monthly retainer, 48.9% charge per project and 34.8% charge by the hour. The most common monthly range was USD 501 to 1,000, chosen by 20.4% of respondents.
The SE Ranking and Duda survey (published in December 2024, 260 agencies from North America, Europe and Oceania) reached a similar conclusion: 53% prefer a monthly retainer and 64% of agencies charge less than USD 1,000 per month. The report itself notes that the sample may not be statistically significant.
Neither includes Latin America in its sample, so take them as a reference for structure, not for price.
What each model includes
| Model | When it makes sense | What you should receive |
|---|---|---|
| One-time audit | You want to know what is wrong before investing | Prioritized report with technical, content and competition issues, plus an action plan |
| Project | Site migration, launch, redesign | Closed deliverables with dates (redirects, architecture, initial content) |
| Monthly retainer | You want sustained growth | Ongoing work on content, technical SEO and links, with a monthly report and review meeting |
| Hourly | You have an in-house team and need specific consulting | Logged hours and concrete recommendations |
The price depends on the size of the site, the competition in your industry, how much content needs to be produced and whether the agency also implements the changes or only recommends them. Be wary of a very low price with no detail as much as of an expensive package that does not explain what it does each month.
What a serious SEO service should include
Beyond the pricing model, a professional service covers these fronts:
- Technical SEO: making sure Google can crawl and index your site, speed, mobile version, 404 errors, redirects and sitemap.
- Keyword research: what your customer searches for, with what intent and how hard it is to compete.
- Content: service pages and articles that answer those searches better than the competition.
- Authority: mentions and links earned legitimately.
- Local SEO if you sell in a specific area: Google Business Profile, reviews and consistent business data.
- Measurement: reports with data from Google Search Console and conversions, not just rankings.
Today it is also worth asking how they work on visibility in AI answers, such as AI Overviews or ChatGPT. We explain it in our guide to Generative Engine Optimization.
Agency, freelancer or in-house team?
- Freelancer: usually cheaper and more flexible. Works well for small sites or specific tasks. The limit is capacity: one person can hardly cover technical SEO, content and development.
- Agency: has more profiles (technical, writing, development, analytics) and continuity if someone leaves. It makes sense when SEO has to work together with the website, advertising and measurement.
- In-house team: makes sense when content is at the heart of the business and there is enough volume to sustain a full-time role.
How long it takes to see results
It depends on how much your site is missing and on the competition, so be wary of fixed timeframes. A reasonable agency will tell you what you will see first (technical fixes, indexed pages, impressions in Search Console) and what comes later (clicks and inquiries). If the proposal has no way to measure progress month by month, something is missing.
Checklist to compare proposals
- Does it explain what is done each month and who does it?
- Does it include access to your data in Search Console and Analytics, in your name?
- Does it show real cases you can verify?
- Does it avoid ranking guarantees and link buying?
- Does it define how success is measured with business data (inquiries, sales), not just rankings?
- Does it clarify currency, price adjustment frequency and minimum commitment?
Conclusion
Choosing an SEO agency is not solved with a "top 10" ranking, which is often put together by one of those same agencies. It is solved with concrete questions, comparable proposals and a clear way to measure. International surveys show that the monthly retainer is the most common model, but the fair price depends on what is done and how it is measured.
